“Better than I was, more than I am, and all of this happened by taking your hand.  And who I am now is who I wanted to be.  And now that we’re together, I’m stronger than ever.  I’m happy and free…”  —Tim McGraw

We both grew up in Pennsylvania so we are no stranger to the weird and wacky weather patterns our state seems to have going on.  After 6 years in the wedding industry, we’ve noticed that certain months of the year run a higher risk of inclement weather than others.  May is one of those months.  Heading into Memorial Day weekend, we were preparing for not just one or two but THREE weddings and it looked like the entire weekend was probably going to be a washout.

Usually I will reach out to our brides on Monday or Tuesday of their wedding week if I think the radar is showing less than stellar weather.  My advice is usually the following:

-Amazon prime yourself some clear umbrellas.  Keep the tags on, and if you don’t end up needing them, return!

-Have a back-up hairstyle that is an updo.  An updo can be the difference between looking like a drowned rat and a queen at your reception.

-Be flexible.  Rain typically changes the timeline in some fashion.  Our goal is to get you the best pictures possible, but we may need to make suggestions or change things last minute to do so!

For Emily and James, being weather-ready meant changing their ceremony location from outside to inside, and thankfully they did as Friday definitely got the brunt of the rough weather.  The Barn at Silverstone has an indoor option for couples to use, and while it is definitely a lot darker than having everything outdoors, it functions well in the rain!

Emily’s hair gave us all the Elsa vibes, and she looked gorgeous from start to finish.  We made use of the clear umbrellas she ordered during bridal party portraits, and we even took the two of them back outside in the dark for a few night shots with the umbrellas and our video light.  Even the rain couldn’t put a damper on the love these two share, and it was an absolutely beautiful day!

How they met:  “We met on Plenty of Fish!”

How he proposed:  “Emily was upstairs getting ready for bed and James asked Emily to come downstairs to play with the dogs.  Emily came down in her PJ’s and James had one dog on each side of him and was down on one knee.”

What Emily loves most about James:  “That he is always willing to try new things!  I am very adventurous and will basically try anything one time.  There have been many things that he has done that he would not normally do because of this.”
